Starting a new painting!!!

I started a new painting. I had traced my friends back in november/ Decemberish?? I'm excited to get this started. What you see in this video is me starting the under-painting. An under-painting will help make your colors in the final image to be more bright and have more of an intensity. I typically use two colors for my under painting. I try to know ahead of time the feeling or color scheme that I want the painting to have and I use colors that contrast that. In this video, I'm using purple . Because I envision this painting, being very bright with yellows and oranges and reds . then I go back in with red in a couple different places and kind of finish out the canvas because I'm going to need some cooler colors to ground the painting. I don't go in with red in the video.

This is the same series I'll be working on with my Amtrak trip. I will be tracing friends, family and strangers, possibly. And strangers will be tracing me! I will then be shipping my canvases back to Minnesota, so that when I get home I can paint using the notes and ideas that we're coming to me in the process.

TRIP UPDATE: I will be leaving Minnesota on March 27 spending two days on the train and end up in Tacoma Washington on Friday 29th I will spend the weekend with my good friend Jill and then will be getting back on the train either April fools or April 2. I am due to arrive in LA on Tuesday 4/3/25 or Wednesday 4/4/24. Thursday and Friday in LA. Leaving Friday the fifth for 10 PM train departure. I will be arriving in Arizona on Saturday 4/6/24, nice and early for some family there! And then I will be leaving again on the 8th to head towards New Orleans. I will be in New Orleans possibly until the 11th and land in Philadelphia on April 12 at 4:16 PM. I have not figured out exactly how long I will stay in Philadelphia and the exact end of the trip.
